I am interested in taking on a role in the Locations Department of scripted film/TV. I have always been interested in writing and developing my own stories, but I would like the opportunity to work in this more logistical department. Film/TV is a people based industry and Locations is all about connecting with people, ensuring the smooth collaboration between the professionals on-set and the public/businesses that are willing to support a production. Locations is the customer-facing aspect of the creative industry, and my over ten years of experience in hospitality have sharpened by persuasive abilities and approachable demeanour to get the best results from that relationship.I had previously left a comfortable full-time receptionist role in Occupational Health to pursue my career in filmmaking. After taking part in a Short Filmmaking course in my own time, I realised that I thrived in an environment that encouraged creative collaboration and created work that was made better by having a myriad of different personalities and perspectives contribute to it. As such, I left that job after five years to start full-time education in filmmaking and never looked back. I am driven to go after what makes me feel the most fulfilled, and I am more than willing to take a leap into uncomfortable territory to achieve that.I have already worked a number of hospitality and administrative jobs in my life, often in customer-facing roles where I must remain calm and positive in fast-moving, high intensity environments. In my zero-hour jobs, I am used to working unsociable hours and adapting to a regular turnaround of new colleagues; skills that I know are essential in a role in the creative sector.
You will often find me at my local cinema with my friends watching whatever horror films happen to be showing. Horror is the most interesting genre for me, because it can be thought-provoking and highly entertaining, sometimes both at the same time. It’s the genre that takes advantage of the audiovisual medium of film the most, using every element to scare, thrill and provoke visceral emotion in it’s audience, often on small budgets. I really admire the creativity that economy allows for, and just the ambitious endeavour overall to make you feel in such an uncompromising way.I have always loved the opportunity to embody other characters and perform. I have been a member of The Arcadians Musical Theatre Company for over ten years and have performed with them in several amateur dramatic musical productions. Singing and dancing in shows, such as Guys & Dolls and Legally Blonde, have been a highlight of my experiences there. Playing larger than life characters and stretching my performative abilities in these disciplines being a fun challenge that I often embraced.I believe that film/TV benefits from collecting the skills and experiences from all walks of life to make something that is profound and speaks to a diverse audience that is clamouring to be seen. As a genderfluid person, I know it would’ve benefitted me to have been introduced to queer identities and alternative ways of living earlier on in my life. I’m passionate about providing a voice for queer people to be seen and accepted for who they are and help create more opportunities for queer people to have a place in the film/TV industry. As such, I am currently engaging in studying business development with the aspiration to create my own production company that is prioritising putting LGBTQIA+ creatives in above-the-line roles in the industry.
