Am a world-class Senior Art Director with experience of art directing movies that have had international theatrical exhibition. Have also worked as a Supervising Art Director in Ireland.Am probably best known for being the Art Director on the award-winning television series “Victoria” for ITV Studios. Was an art director on the BAFTA award-wining BBC TV drama series “Small Axe”. Other productions include “Gangs of London” for Sky Cinema and “Silverpoint” for ZDF / BBC TV in County Antrim.Was trained at Film Design International at Pinewood Studios, London. I work in the traditional Pinewood Studios draughting style and in CAD. Have experience of designing large sets and even practical underwater sets. My speciality is designing historical sets, as my art school training in the history of art and architecture was commendable. I have an excellent collection of reference books to ensure historical accuracy.Have worked in Budapest, Hungary, the Dominican Republic, the USA, Germany, Spain, Saudi Arabia and Ireland. Strive to make working in my Art Departments an enjoyable experience; “if the cast and crew enjoy making a production then the audience will enjoy watching it.” This gets the best results.
My particular interests are historical buildings of all kinds and periods. Conservation of historic buildings, engineering and transport, particularly railways and canals.I collect books on art, architecture, interiors and folk designs. Do photography of interesting buildings, lettering, landscapes and townscapes.I strive to keep my hand in doing life drawing, as this is a good discipline for hand-eye coordination. This is becoming a lost skill in some art schools.Like many people in the film industry, I play music as a hobby with keyboard instruments.
