I have worked on 2 productions so far - Black Ops Series 2 on BBC One and a feature film named 'Call of the Void.' I got on Black Ops via the Screenskills HETV Trainee Finder scheme and worked on the job from Jan 2025 - March 2025. During this job I learnt how to boom atmos for some of the scenes and also boomed in tight spaces. I also grabbed kit from the van and learnt what some of this was, as well as doing coffee and tea runs for my team. I laid carpets for certain scenes and had the chance to mic an extra on set. I then worked on Call of the Void (the production seems to be renaming the project now) and on this job I focused on getting the aerials into the appropriate location when on set in order to give everyone the best sound quality. I also focused on getting picture to the sound recordist and developed skills in laying cables in more complex environments such as woodlands. I learnt how to set up the wireless mics worn by actors and the different ways of doing this. On both jobs it was also important that I kept batteries charged and found suitable places to charge them. I also brought fresh batteries to set so the boom op had enough.
I am interested in working up towards being a boom op and I am also a keen musician outside of tv work, so that is also something I am exploring. I would also like to learn more about the mixing side of things when on set.I do love Peaky Blinders and see that they have a new studio in Digbeth and this is something I would love to be a part of at some point as well!
