British sign language interpreting experience within media: During my undergraduate BSL interpreting degree, 4 years ago, I shadowed a media interpreter so I have some limited experience of being on sets, and behind the scenes. This included observing filming of BBC See Hear, editing of a news item, and a staff meeting. Since then, I have worked in a few media based university lectures and with an acting student, which has added a little practical knowledge, to my previous shadowing experience. Also, I recently attended a weekend residential media training course. This course covered a plethora of media based topics, with presentations conducted by deaf media based professionals and hearing interpreters, sharing information regarding domain specific terminology in BSL, the professional structure, liaising with accessibility co-ordinators and professional expectations, among others. Outside of this area I have been working mainly in higher education, interpreting within university lectures, in subjects which cover various topics from human anatomy, to business management. I also work regularly in an office environment as an access to work interpreter. These jobs enhance my overall interpreting skills, in facilitating communication, cultural mediation and coping with a variety of demands.
I am interested in starting work in a back ground capacity on any type of media project.
