I am a 28 year old creative, specialising in sound and writing. I have been writing short stories since I was young, and took part in NaNoWriMo every year until it's closure in 2025. I graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2019 with a BA Hons English 2:1. During my time at University, I wrote for school magazines and journals. After graduation, I wanted to pursue a career in the creative industry, in film or production, however due to health issues I was unable to do so; Until now.Over the last six years I have worked in various roles. As a Business Support Officer, I was the point of contact for my team. I scheduled appointments, took minutes and provided administrative support. I took calls from service users, resolving queries or pointing them in the right direction to get answers. I had to be incredibly organised, and prioritise my workload to ensure that there were no delays in the service. I have also worked in retail, where every day was a new challenge. I had to think on my feet to resolve customer queries and complaints, and had to remain professional as well as approachable.I currently work (unpaid) for MainHouse, which is a small group of creatives who come together to create short films. I have provided scripts for shorts that we have filmed this year, and I also work as their sound recorder. Sound was something new to me when I started working with MainHouse in mid 2024, and I have grown to love it. I would love to gain more experience with sound recording.I currently also work part-time as a Healthcare Assistant, where I must always remain vigilant; I cannot take my eyes off the ball. If I notice patient deterioration or any issue on the ward, I act on my initiative and either escalate to a superior, or deal with the problem myself if I've had the correct training to do so. I'm on my feet for 12 hours a day, and I'm always busy - as such, my health is no longer the issue that it was 6 years ago, and my time as a HCA helps show that.
As well as having a passion for film, I am an avid reader. I studied English at university as I am writer, and have been writing short stories since I was young. When it comes to specifics within genre, horror has a special place in my heart. it is my most favourite genre in reading, film and games. I enjoy fantasy and science-fiction as genres also, having grown up with Star Wars and Lord of the Rings being my mum's favourites. I am a big fan of practical effects, and films such as Labyrinth are also big favourites of mine. This is what connects my love of horror and fantasy/sci-fi, is the use of practical effects and real sets and props. I find it so impressive when a film works on creative the environment for the actors to act in, as opposed to relying on a green or blue screen. However, I cannot deny that the use of CGI is important in enhancing these practical sets.
