Jonathan is a passionate film director / film maker and co-founder of 2 film production houses, one of which is a charity. Jonathan has made more than 8 short films with more slated for 2025 - 2028, and including a feature film. He made his first film at the age of 14 using 8mm / 16mm stop motion for the re-make of The Battle Of Hoth (Empire Strikes Back) for his Duke Of Edinburgh Award Scheme project. Jonathan was so in awe of the film's physical and visual effects that he wanted to re-create this scene, which took 2.5 tons of bi-carbonate of soda (snow), 40 school kids painting models, and 2 large classrooms with a purpose built stage, and created a 30 seconds film - taking 8 weeks to build and shoot.Having decided on a career change after 30 years working in Europe, Asia and USA in the technology industry, Jonathan decided to return to his film making passion full-time, initially co-founding Shouting Sound & Motion Productions in 2018 (which specialised in film-score, sound design and VFX production), and then in 2023 co-founding Chichester FilmMakers with support from Kate Winslet. A non-profit organisation with the mission of supporting the development of film making and screen acting skills within the community, and providing opportunities for the local community to get involved with the making of actual films in and around West Sussex.Following the premiere of their first film (as Chichester FIlmMakers) and fulfilling their mission of seeing many students and local community members benefitting, and attracting more than 50 film festival awards from around the world, Jonathan and Chichester FilmMakers are now working with the team to develop their first feature film together (Final Truth) which will again provide many opportunities for the local community to get involved, develop skills, and all while showcasing the many great locations and landmarks around Chichester.
I love telling / creating intricate stories through film, leading the audience on a journey often with twists, turns, cliff hangers, incorporating sound, camera and light, framing, good acting, with well rehearsed acting and well known public locations. Examples, of this include Rotterdam for War Of The Tulips (1997), The Barn (Weald & Downland Museum, West Sussex), and Final Truth (central Chichester, West Sussex).As well as writing and directing, I have a particular passion for working with other sound designers and composers in my studio to create a palette of sound and music that is specific to the story.Member of ASCAP, Ivors Academy (UK), Raindance Film Festival.Jonathan is also in demand to help and assist with the development of production of many new and upcoming film productions for both short and feature-length films, across the South of England.
