I'm currently studying Film & Television at Solent University after leaving my role as an assistant project manager at South West Water Limited. This was a brilliant experience for me as I worked within a collaborative environment and learned how organizations and businesses operate. While completing my apprenticeship, I achieved a L4 Associate Project Manager qualification which took a lot of hard work and dedication to complete alongside my regular work. This received recognition from the organization as I was nominated for a Pennon apprentice star award in honor of my achievement. However, I decided to leave my role as an assistant project manager to follow my passion by enrolling in a degree in Film & Television. My ultimate goal is to write and direct my own feature films as I love writing screenplays and demonstrating my artistic vision. Furthermore, I believe that the project management skills that I’ve acquired over the last two years will be transferable as the Film & Television industry is very collaborative and I believe that is one of my greatest strengths. I know that if I want to achieve my goals and ambitions, I need to take every opportunity that I can to get to where I want to be. My skills are:• Punctual, reliable, and hard working. • Team player.• Creative with good problem-solving skills. • Patient with good listening skills.• Good sense of humour.• Enjoys being active and outdoors.
As a first year student with no previous experience, I've been keen on getting involved in as many opportunities as I can outside of the course. I hope that by doing this, I'll be able to apply my skills and knowledge to a range of different roles within the industry, allowing me to access as many opportunities as possible. Therefore, I'll be able to go straight onto set and be a valuable commodity for the production team. Aside from film, I've also been trying to grow my skills in a television production environment too. One of the events that I have been regularly involved in this year is Sonar Events which is a society that is purely focused on live sports event production. Most weekends, we film basketball matches for the Solent Kestrels men’s and women’s teams. These live broadcasts are livestreamed on the Basketball England YouTube channel. As a member of this society, I have shadowed various roles such as Director, Vision Mixer, Sound and Graphics. My favourite role as part of live event production is Camera Operator as I love to follow the action of the players and experience the atmosphere from the crowd. I really believe that my communication and technical skills have greatly improved because of being involved in this society. Recently I’ve also been involved in a Sports Night Broadcast which was a great experience. We had Sports Journalism students who were watching and reporting on midweek football matches in a ‘Soccer Saturday’ like broadcast. My role in this broadcast was autocue operator, so I had to make sure that the script was moving down the page at the correct speed for the Presenter to read. Lastly, I'm looking forward to the third year student short films that I've volunteered to take part in. My roles for each are script supervisor and spark. I hope that these productions will give me a greater insight and understanding of what a film production would be like on a small scale.
