I have worked as a seamstress since graduating from university in 2009. I trained in alterations with the fashion designer Blessing Sule. I honed my skills there and gained invaluable technical experience. After this, I invested in the machinery I needed to launch my own sewing business. I offered a design service to clients alongside producing my own designs. I drafted all my own patterns and produced unique garments that were tailored to my clients' wants and needs. I also offered alteration and repair services and have altered a wide range of garments. I still run Charlottes Threads in my spare time. I currently work at Jane Young as part of the alterations team. We are required to fit customers when they purchase their garments, and we then carry out any alterations in house. We do on the spot alterations and work to tight deadlines as customer needs can be pressing. We also repair and clean any stock that is damaged or marked. I have worked on indie film projects in recent years, heading the costume department. These were on a limited budget but involved making and altering items as well as helping cast dress and being on set for continuity purposes. I have worked with Polka Dot Pantomimes altering and making a considerable number of pieces which were then sent to various productions across the country. I attended the theatres in the run up to the opening nights and was on hand for any final alterations or repairs needed. I also have experience of helping backstage as a dresser at fashion shows during my time at university and thrive on the fast-paced energy of shows. Due to the nature of the work I have undertaken in recent years, I am used to working flexibly around the needs of my clients and working to tight deadlines, often working unsociable hours to get a job completed. I can work well under pressure and try my very best to accommodate any last-minute changes to work when required.
