From my previous experience in production I have learnt to quickly adapt to new work related scenarios and situations. For example, when previously working as a Sound Trainee and boom operating on a busy set, I had to constantly follow the director of photographys movements for a single take scene. This meant I had to memorise the choreography of our ensemble of actors, while also making sure I knew the routine of the cinematographer. In order to capture the best Sound possible, I needed to work seamlessly with the camera to get what I needed, while being out of shot and allowing each department to get what they wanted too. I also have an ever developing technical knowledge. A lot of recording Sound is about problem solving, so understanding how to use production standard equipment, such as audio mixers, radio mics, headphones, radios and larger recording devices. This means that I can provide my department the best possible assistance, while also explaining how the equipment works or fixing anything for people who may have to work with Sound devices, such as actors or production crew. This also means that understanding the value of equipment is important. Researching the equipment I'm using ensures I keep it safe and out of potential danger or unattended, such as in an unlocked vehicle. Preparing like this further develops my technical knowledge so that I am ready for any potential scenario. I also have experience working in a busy, customer facing role as a key worker throughout the initial pandemic outbreak up until the summer period of 2021. Because of this, I have gained many transferable skills for working in production. Working in a large team is something I enjoy greatly, as communication is key to each department in order to achieve mutual goals. In this customer service position I was also meeting many new people every day, so excellent communication is something I strive to achieve and take great pleasure in demonstrating. Having experience as a Production Runner also means that I understand how different departments operate, such as Directing, Lighting, Art and Costume. Because of this, I am aware of how to fix a problem within my own department, while also respecting the needs of others. These are skills that are crucial to working within Production Sound, as our department needs to be able to communicate with others so that all of our work can come together and create the content.
