Description

Since graduating with a First with Honours in a Combined Film and Screen Studies and Creative Writing Bachelor’s degree, I have been eager to continue working in the industry and to connect with like-minded individuals.

This year I completed my first paid freelance reading job this year for New Pictures, reviewing the memoir Cloistered for TV adaptation potential. My supervisor Matt Sandford (Des) gave me advice on making a development career and put me on their books as a Freelance Reader. I was also invited by Freddie Fox to work on The Painting and The Statue, a short film for Slick Films, directed by Fox and written by Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education). I was a runner on and off set, but also shadowed Freddie on multiple shoot days so that I could learn more about directing. I assisted the production design/ props department as the team recognised my previous art experience would be helpful for busy scenes.

In 2018 I got the opportunity to complete work experience as a development assistant on The Innocents in the head office of New Pictures, supervised by Willow Grylls, Elaine Pyke and Christine Healy, who were very encouraging. They invited me back for two weeks the following summer (2019) and for two weeks in production design on the set of The Spanish Princess at The Bottle Yard Studios in 2020. My tasks included creating prop books out of waste materials, sewing Tudor-era dolls and helping re-set scenes. I used these opportunities as a chance to expand my network by staying in touch with cast and crew members such as Freddie Fox (White House Farm), who helped me get work experience as a Set Runner on location in London for Slow Horses in 2021. I was asked back for Series Two (Dead Lions) by my supervisor Russell Dewulff Booth to work in the studio in October and November 2021.

Special Interests

I am a highly creative individual who passionate about both writing, particularly scriptwriting and Film and TV analysis, and sculpting (art) through my ceramics training with my father, a professional sculptor and ceramicist. Through my own exploration of these personal passions, as well as my previous jobs in the script development and prop departments, I would particularly love the opportunity to develop my career further in either departments, although I am open to any Film and TV or Creative Media industry job and always open to learning new skills.

My intentional choice to have completed such broad work experience is an example of my willingness to try new things but also so that I understand the priorities of a variety of departments on set. I am an enthusiastic, motivated team member in every job that I undertake, with my experience in multiple television and film departments providing me with a nuanced perspective of the industry that aids both problem solving in a development role, whilst not being afraid to push the boundaries of the film medium.

This year I had a fascinating hour-long video call with the Wolf Hall Director, Peter Kosminsky (another gallery customer) to get advice about his journey into writing and directing. I left the call feeling touched that he said I had asked meaningful questions and that I had the qualities needed to succeed in the industry.
