I have spent the last year on the Production Finance Assistant Traineeship at ITV. This traineeship saw me gain invaluable insight in to the role of finance within productions, working on some of the UK’s most beloved shows, across multiple genres - most notably Coronation Street and The Voice UK. During this time, I have consolidated my knowledge of the processes surrounding expenses and purchase orders, regularly dealing with queries of this sort throughout the production. As well as being one of the few staff members responsible for updating the production costbook through Citrix Cloud, this role has also seen me develop my digital literacy, whilst familiarising myself with the nuances of ITV’s systems - Oracle Fusion, Freecon and TalPay.I enjoy the process of finding new innovative ways of working, particularly for some of the otherwise repetitive tasks associated with finance. For instance, during the traineeship, I created a script-based code to automate the task of sending reminders to production members to clear their receipts. This method has since been adopted by the finance team at Lifted Entertainment.To coincide with the ITV traineeship, I began a production accounting diploma course with the National Film & Television School. This furthered my understanding of this role in relation to the wider industry, introducing me to the more complex areas of production finance, such as, constructing budgets, PACT/BECTU & Equity agreements, UK Film & TV Tax Credit and crew & cast payroll. As part of this courses’ assessment, I also completed a two week placement on an upcoming Netflix production, where I undertook cashier and accounts payable duties, including handling Equals card claims and reconciliations. During this time, I have become well-versed in the following softwares - Movie Magic Budgeting 10, PSL, Eclipse and DPO.
