Focused, driven, and cine-literate Director who makes films about lost souls looking for a place to call home. I am a self-taught filmmaker, who came to the profession whilst working in education. I was given the opportunity to teach filmmaking after a consolidation of departments. Whilst learning the skills to teach them I was bitten by the filmmaking bug and haven’t looked back since. After starting the company Apple Park Films, I began the development of my first feature film Little Pieces, which was completed in early 2015. Little Pieces garnered critical acclaim, including being nominated for best drama at the UK National Film Awards, and is currently available in the UK and US on Amazon Prime. My second feature film The Mire premiered in February 2023 and my most recent project Frankie Gets Bit is a short comedy, which premiered at Portsmouth Shorts::Cut Festival in October 2023.Being a self-taught filmmaker has given me an outside-the-box perspective on filmmaking. I have worked very slowly up until now, but have taken the opportunity to learn from every film I have been attached to make. It has made me a very collaborative filmmaker who works closely with creative teams to craft a vision. I work closely with actors to draw strong and focused performances from them on screen, my approach being described as similar to that of a theatre director.
As a filmmaker, I am very proud of my Portsmouth heritage. I look to originate and develop projects that are set in or feature Portsmouth, as I believe it’s a place where films can and should be made.
