I am a second year costume design student from the University of Salford. I have strong sewing skills, which include using a domestic/industrial sewing machine, hand embroidery and embellishment, pattern cutting and draping on a stand. Through opportunities provided by my university I have learn how to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, laser cutter and 3D printer. By studying art I have also developed skills within painting, print making, drawing and digital drawing. I am passionate about ensuring that most of my work is sustainable. I have demonstrated this in my university module's by making a Victorian bonnet made from recycled materials and a space suit which was 60 recycled. I have taken part in several fashion shows, showcasing my work and helping to style the models for the runway. I have worked as part of a team with Little Bolton Theatre and a theatre company in Shanghai designing and making for their shows. I also shadowed Vanessa Coupe, a costume maker and helped make a costume for BBC Gentlemen Jack. This has allowed me to gain key experience of working in industry and become confident when given challenging tasks. In addition to my creative interests, I have been cheerleading from age 11-present for Birkenhead Comets, who compete globally. I then joined my university team and was elected as the Team Captain. This has helped my confidence, a skill which I can use when showcasing my designs. As a captain of a team this is a job which requires leadership and organisation skills. This has taught me how to work well in a group and face new challenges confidentially. I love recieving a new script to get ready to start the design process, making something from nothing is the excitement of costume design. I would love the opportunity to gain experience into the industry and start my journey as a designer.
