Clare Baybutt is an emerging young artist and film-maker currently based in London. Previously entering the realms of independent cinema; she has worked as a Camera Assistant on various productions, working with well-known Directors such as Ate De Jong and Emily Harris. Clare also used her artistic tendencies to cross over into Art Direction for experimental shorts and music videos, with clients including Clean Bandit and M&C Saatchi. Her involvement in the much wider culture of moving image is present at the core of her concepts; understanding the relationship between the audience and the arena of cinema. Her artist film has been exhibited all over London. Clare has written articles and critiques on film for Londons popular magazine IDOL, directed fashion film shown at LFW 2015, and has worked for widely known production companies such as WARP Films. Now residing in Brighton but working predominately in London Clare is attending the prestigious Royal College of Art, where she is studying an MA in Moving Image through Photographic Practice; a revered course Launched by the late Stuart Croft. Currently Clare is using verbatim theatre practices, focusing on working collaboratively with members of the public with slightly unusual lifestyles. In working closely with her subjects Clare loosens her grip on the constraints of her projects and gives their voice dominance. The overall experience is aimed at drawing the individuals into an art process that they will have not yet encountered. The groups Clare is co-operating with include military personnel, lawyers and professional mermaids.
